The Old State Rooms constructed on the second
floor of Kalayaan Hall during the Commonwealth of
the Philippines, and which were in official use
from 1937-1980: the administration of President
Manuel Quezon till that of President Ferdinand Marcos.
These rooms were restored in 2002-2003 through the
initiative of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
in order to revive appreciation of the heritage
of Malacañang as the seat of the Philippine
Presidency, and are part of a series of rooms throughout
the Palace complex – in the Palace proper,
Kalayaan Hall and Bonifacio Hall – named in
honor of past presidents to whom these specific
rooms can be directly and significantly linked.
