Login and Sync to the OP Pocket PC Site

Stay up-to-date to the most essential information about the President using one of the most connected PDAs available today - the Pocket PC. Log-in and sync to our Pocket PC version at http://www.gov.ph/pocketpc

Working with Mobile Favorites

Take the OP site with you on your trips. With Pocket PC Mobile Favorites, you can do this. Here's how.

What You Need
  • Desktop PC connected to the Internet
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6 with ActiveSync® 3.5 on the desktop
Setting Up Mobile Favorites

Here's how to set up the OP site for offline browsing on the Pocket PC:
  1. Connect your Pocket PC to the desktop using ActiveSync 3.5.
  2. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer on your desktop and go to http://www.gov.ph/pocketpc
  3. On the browser toolbar, click on "Tools" then choose "Create Mobile Favorite ..."

You will be prompted to type a name and select an update schedule for the automatic update of your new Mobile Favorite, as you can see below. Once you click OK, you will notice action in the ActiveSync window. ActiveSync is now downloading the site and adding it to the list of Mobile Favorites in your Pocket Internet Explorer.

Browsing Your Mobile Favorites with Pocket Internet Explorer

To verify your new Mobile Favorite, start Pocket Internet Explorer on your Pocket PC and tap the Favorites button on the toolbar. In your Favorites, you will see the new site listed. Tap the name of the site, and you will see Pocket Internet Explorer load the site. If you try to select one of the links in the site, you will encounter an error message because you are not connected to the Internet.

Advanced Options of Mobile Favorites

You can manage your Mobile Favorites with Internet Explorer and define some additional options. The management of Mobile Favorites is embedded in the organizer for your desktop Favorites, located on the Favorites menu.
  1. Open the Favorites menu and then click on Organize Favorites.
  2. In the Organize Favorites dialog box, click the Mobile Favorites folder and select any of your Mobile Favorites. A summary of the selected Favorite will be shown in the information section of the dialog box, as you can see in Figure below.
  3. Click the Properties button of the Favorites site and you will be able to set a series of options for it.

Most of the time you will work with only the last two tabs of the Properties dialog box: Schedule and Download.
  1. Schedule allows you to change the value you chose when you created the Favorite.
  2. The Download options can be quite interesting: You can define what and how much you want to download.
  3. The default settings are set for the minimal requirements to view the selected page offline and all images in it. If you want to be able to browse to some links from the site, you can define the depth of links you want to download.
Tip: I do not recommend setting the depth of links to more than two. On each site, there could be another set of links and you can easily have tons of pages synchronized with your Pocket PC. If you still want to go deeper than two links, I recommend that you set a limit to the hard-disk space those pages can take.

The Advanced options give you even more choices. I recommend you do not change the defaults. Most ActiveX® controls on common Web sites do not work on your Pocket PC because they are written for the Intel processor line. You can clear the Sound and Videos option, though, if you want to save some space on your Pocket PC. But because this is usually the coolest content anyway well... you choose.

Gotcha

If you try to browse offline to a link that was not synchronized, you will get an error message.

Languages Supported

All languages.

Conclusion

Pocket Internet Explorer and Mobile Favorites give you the best combination of both worlds of browsing: offline and online. Managing and working with Mobile Favorites is as easy as two mouse clicks on the desktop.
